Greetings one and all:

For those of you who have asked, or were merely curious, or were doing some advance planning, or were merely waiting for the announcement,

1999 Northern California Homebrewers Festival (NCHF 2) Skyline Park, Napa, CA

Oktober 2, 1999. Same time, same place.

You should be able to pretty much plan on it being the first Saturday of Oktober from now on. Makes it easy to plan for, even without knowing the date.

A couple of other things to be said:

1. I want to thank each of you for the part you played in making NCHF happen. There are not many clubs that can say they participate in a day-long (weekend-long?) party with 25+ other clubs, especially in the context of homebrewing. You, and your clubs, deserve congratulations for participating. Thank you all.

2. I want to ask each of you to favorably consider volunteering to be one of the Board members for 1999. Now that you have been to Skyline, and seen the Fest, you have a better idea of what we have, and what we CAN have, if we get enough people to work together. It takes a good group of people working together to make something like NCHF happen, and it isn't just a one-club effort. A couple of available positions would include Entertainment Agent and Food Services. You may have some connections or know some secret handshakes; those are the things that make an event like this go. If there is something you want to see happen at the Fest, it probably won't take much more than for you to speak up and offer your guidance.

3. In that context, I'll ask you to contact long-time MadBrewer and the new NCHF Co-Czar, ALAN ATKINSON, who will be taking over the helm in my place. Alan spent a good chunk of time helping put 1998 together, and is well-qualified to handle the job. I fully expect that 1999 will be better than 1998 because of Alan's abilities and skills. I will be hanging around with plenty of advice and suggestions, but Alan is the Organizer for 1999, and I hope you give him the support and help that you gave to me. Alan's email is mailto:atkinson@franciscan.com Drop him a line, welcome him, wish him luck, and offer to help make 1999 NCHF a success.

4. To the 1998 Board of Dictators, I hope that each of you will serve another year on the Board, to help provide continuity, and to help Alan accomplish the goal of making 1999 NCHF bigger and better. You each know what needs to be done, and how to go about it, and your help means that Alan won't have to a) reinvent the wheel, and b) worry about your job getting done and done well. My personal thanks to Mike, Jamey, Tim and Ira. You guys helped me keep what little sanity I had. ;-)

5. Glasses. I'll be boxing up the ones that weren't picked up on Dec. 12, and hopefully get them out to you for distribution to your members this week.

6. Shirts. If anybody wants shirts, let me know. Otherwise, I'm gonna put the shirt stuff away.

7. I plan on spending all of my time at NCHF 2 hanging out at the tables, tasting and serving beer, listening to the speakers and bands, and being quasi-coherent for Dead Palates Society. This I vow.

See you in Oktober. Cheers!

Dan
