Club Rep Meeting and Festival Date Update

Greetings, all.

A couple of things have happened since my last email, and I apologize for not corresponding sooner.

Please mark your calendars as follows:

Meeting of Club Reps: Saturday, March 14, 1998, 11:00 a.m., Skyline Park, Napa.

Northern California Homebrewers Festival: Saturday, Oktober 3, 1998

The reasons are as follow:

The original announcement and call for club reps envisioned that this thing would happen at the end of September or early Oktober, primarily because as a 1st time event of some potential magnitude and glorious future, we want it to come off without any major hitches, and have a great time. Then the MadBrewers Membership said "Why wait, let's do it in May." We tried to get a date that didn't conflict with Mother's Day or Memorial Day, which basically put us at May 30. Great day, right?

Wrong. May 30 is one of the days of judging the AHA Nationals 1st round in Grass Valley/Nevada City. It would be inappropriate for an inaugural event to directly conflict with an established major homebrewing event.

Additionally, it would be just plain wrong to cut out all the judges from the Festival. Some of us want to do both. (I would like to say that we attempted to obtain the info on judging from AHA BEFORE we set the May 30 date, and, despite 2 emails to that end, we did not get the info from AHA until 4 days AFTER we sent the earlier email out to the clubs. Martin Lodahl gave us the info roughly 48 hours before AHA, but we didn't seek out Martin's advice until after the email went out. Our fault there, and Martin was quick to respond. Oh, and thanks to everyone else who pointed the date conflict to me.)

The next available date for the site was June 27, the weekend before July 4.

We finally had to face the fact that unless we were willing to battlewith summer schedule conflicts, the Fest would have to be done where we originally thought it would, and that's where the 1st Saturday in Oktober comes in. It still creates a few conflicts with the Wine Making Contingent (harvest and crush), but this IS a Homebrewers Festival after all. And it will probably cause all kinds of havoc with Oktoberfest Celebrations among the Clubs. Anybody have a better idea?

So....

Hopefully this doesn't wreck your plans. Apologies from Napa on the date screw up. Please reset your calendars from February 28 back to March 14 (as originally planned) and from May 30 to Oktober 3 (as originally envisioned, more or less).

Parenthetically, because of the timing of the first date change and the discovery of the May 30 Judging date conflict, the clubs not on the email list were not notified of the Feb. 28/May 30 dates, and they will therefore be here as originally planned on March 14. So much for the advantages of being on the cutting edge of information, eh? All clubs will be notified by mail of the Oktober 3 date within the week.

If the Feb. 28 to Mar. 14 reschedule creates a problem, please let me know. I will be happy to meet with any and all club reps on Feb. 28, at Skyline. Likewise, if BOTH dates present a problem, please let me know. We can arrange an alternate date, or we can burn up the copper wires a bit. And, the offer to attend club meetings to talk about the Festival, answer questions, etc. remains open..

Would Club Reps planning to attend on Mar. 14 drop me an email? I will need to make arrangements at the Park Gate so you can get in without having to hand over $$. Some things never change, and lists of names are one of them.

Speaking of lists, it's starting to look like we're going to have a pretty decent showing for a 1st time event. I'm getting pretty stoked. The details are coming together pretty well, and that includes not only the site, but speakers, bands, food, "The License," etc. We should have a couple of logo sketches for review at the meeting. For anyone interested in T-Shirts or Glasses, I'm thinking that if any of the Clubs want to have a special Fest Shirt, a Pocket sized logo could be screened on. There would probably be a set-up fee and a per shirt fee, but that's a detail that can wait for now. Think about it.

A thought: since we're back to having enough time to cover extra details between now and Oktober, be thinking about the kinds of things you want to have at the fest. We've been kind of working on what we see as the basics, and we've no doubt missed things. Drop me an email, or call, if you have any ideas.

Finally, hopefully you all have received Jeremy Bergsman's emails on the Majordomo list. Likewise, hopefully you have all now subscribed to thegeneral and organizer's list. This here list in my address book isgoing to go the way of the dodo shortly, and I'm going to be posting on the -organizer's list for purely internal affairs, and to the -general list for more ordinary matters. If you missed the email, or foolishly deleted it and now want to sign up, let me know, and I'll forward it to you. Cheers! to Jeremy for setting the thing up. USE THE CLUB LISTSRV! Likewise, have your newsletter editors put a blurb in yournewsletter about the -general list, in case your members want to

subscribe. Right on.

Hope to see you all (or your designated Club Reps) on the 14th.

And, I hope to see some of you at the MASH Comp this Saturday.

Cheers!
