Taking back our rivers
What is CSPA all about?
Taking Back Our Rivers
CSPA is the public trust advocate for California's fisheries. What does this mean? This alliance of sportfishing groups seeks administrative and legal remedies to restore degraded fisheries and guard against threats to what is left.
CSPA effectively stands before the State and Regional Water Boards, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). These are the agencies that set standards for stream flow and water quality. No other sportfishing group maintains a steady presence before these important bodies.
CSPA continuously monitors the activities of Federal and State trustee agencies, including the California Department of Fish and Game, Department of Water Resources, U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Bureau of Reclamation, and Army Corps of Engineers. CSPA is the agency watch dog, demanding compliance with environmental regulations and proper stewardship of public trust assets.
CSPA continuously monitors the water rights process, filing hundreds of protests on detrimental water rights applications.
CSPA continues to monitor streamflow data, and has filed complaints against water districts and hydro-electric utilities for thousands of days of streamflow violations.
CSPA litigates for fisheries protection and restoration when administrative remedies are exhausted or when public agencies fail to perform their public trust responsibilities.
CSPA was created to take back our rivers. CSPA is doing the job.
