Oroville Project - Oroville Reservoir - Feather River
The CSPA joined forces with the Lake Oroville Fish
Enhancement Committee (LOFEC) in an effort to improve public fishing for
cold water species in Oroville Reservoir. FERC ordered the Department of
Water Resources (DWR) to conduct a five (5) year fishery study of Oroville
Reservoir as requested by CSPA and LOFEC in their petition of intervention.
FERC also ordered the development of the Oroville Recreation Advisory Committee
(ORAC) which oversee recreation improvements at the DWR's Oroville Project.
The CSPA and LOFEC, members of ORAC, requested the expansion of the Feather
River Fish Hatchery. DWR was recently ordered by FERC to expand the hatchery.
And the five year fishery study will be concluded in about 1998 to determine
the amount of cold water fish such as trout and surplus salmon to be stocked
in the reservoir for fishing in the future. DWR recently hired a Washington
D.C. Law Firm to fence off public concerns over recreation and sportfishing
at the Oroville Project. The Oroville Project provides water to the State
Water Contractors. The value of the water is worth tens of millions of dollars
which brings Northern California water to Southern California. Shown below
are some of the CSPA and LOFEC activities with the FERC, DWR, and other
state and federal agencies in recent years.
